Hi, y’all!
I’m Mary Kalusche, branding strategist and graphic designer focused on building thoughtful, story-driven brands.
For the past seven-plus years, I’ve helped businesses bring clarity to their ideas and translate them into cohesive visual identities that feel authentic, memorable, and purposeful.
Today, I serve as Creative Director at AMD Creative, where I lead creative direction across client projects from early concept development to final execution. My role is equal parts strategist, designer, and collaborator. Whether I’m guiding a team, refining a logo, reviewing deliverables, or helping a client uncover what makes their business unique, I’m always looking for ways to create work that is both meaningful and effective.
One thing people often misunderstand about design is how much thought goes into making something feel effortless. If you aren't trained in art and design, it's easy to look at a logo, package, or brand identity and think, "I could do that." But that's often the mark of great design: making complex ideas feel simple, intuitive, and easy to understand.
How I Think
Design starts with stories, not software.
I believe the strongest brands aren't just visually appealing—they have a reason for existing. My process starts with listening, asking questions, and uncovering the stories that make a business unique. Whether it's a subtle visual reference, a founder's personal journey, or a mission-driven identity system, I strive to create work that feels intentional, authentic, and memorable.
How I Lead
Collaboration has always been at the center of my work.
My journey at AMD Creative began in 2017 as a design intern and has since evolved into roles as Lead Designer and Creative Director. Along the way, I've collaborated with clients, strategists, writers, marketers, and fellow designers to bring brands to life. These experiences have shaped my leadership style and reinforced my belief that the best creative work happens when talented people come together around a shared vision.
How I Recharge
You'll find me climbing and exploring Alabama's nature.
When I'm away from my desk, you'll usually find me outdoors. As an Alabama native, I love exploring the state's rich biodiversity, especially with Jefferson County Greenways, naturalist-led hikes, searching for critters, and learning about native plants and wildlife. I'm also an avid climber, and the curiosity, problem-solving, and persistence that draw me to climbing often find their way back into my creative work.

⊙ Student Portfolio Review
One of my favorite opportunities has been returning to my alma mater as a portfolio reviewer for graphic design students. Through one-on-one portfolio critiques and conversations about navigating the creative industry, I've had the chance to encourage emerging designers and share insights from my own professional experience. It's always inspiring to see the creativity, personality, and potential reflected in each student's work.
